The 87th Annual Oscars: Favorites, Snubs, & Controversy

The 2015 Academy Award nominations have been announced, and the crowds are buzzing. The 87th Oscars will be hosted by Neil Patrick Harris, a comedian and actor best known for his role as Barney Stinson on the sitcom How I Met Your Mother. Harris told the Academy, “It is truly an honor and a thrill to be asked to host this year’s Academy Awards. I grew up watching the Oscars and was always in such awe of some of the greats who hosted the show.” As usual, there have been both positive and negative responses to the Academy’s nominations, and predictions have commenced about who, or what, will win an Oscar this year.

Black Student Union

Perhaps the greatest things about a public education is the accessibility of many different activities and opportunities for students to experience a diverse culture. An example of this diversity is seen in one of the clubs here at James Logan High School  known as the Black Student Union, or “BSU”. “BSU” meets in room 529 with adviser Dorothy Allen.  The student organization’s purpose for this program is to influence and empower the student body with African and African-American history, culture and experiences that are thriving all across the globe.

Blanket Drive

With the holidays over, it’s still important to keep the method of giving in mind the. Quite often individuals don’t spend much time to think about the comfort of others and how they’re doing. Some may think of considering the needy as a burden because it may cause a “bad vibe.” But for how long can individuals live in the shadow of others’ suffering? Maybe make it your new years resolution to strive to think about others.

Partnering with Blankets for Kids, James Logan’s Humanitarian Assistance Club is holding a winter blanket drive for homeless children primarily living in the Bay Area. Club advisor, Paula Atlansky, agreed to allow students to drop off blankets during lunch, before or after school to her classroom located in 506. (more…)

Flat White: American Starbucks Begin Selling “Down Under” Favorite

While seasonal drinks such as pumpkin spice lattes and gingerbread frappuccinos have left the Starbucks menu, a new drink has made an appearance. Starbucks in the United States are now serving the “flat white”. The flat white is a perennial favorite in Australia and the United Kingdom. However it has been an elusive drink in the US, the domain of artisan coffeehouses of Seattle and Williamsburg. Starbucks is marketing its latest addition under the slogan “Simplicity is its own artistry”. Starbucks bypassed conducting a market test, as it had with it’s short lived Sorbetto and Chanchito drink creations. The flat white joined nationwide menus on Tuesday, January 6. There have been mixed receptions from civilians and coffee experts, as well as Americans and those abroad.
