“IT” Movie Trailer Sends Chills

By Mary Kay Floyd, Courier News Editor

The “IT” movie trailer has just been released and movie buffs are freaking out.

The trailer has revealed the release date as September 8, 2017.  The film is an adaptation of Stephen King’s horror novel under the same name, and there was also a miniseries for the novel released in 1990.

“IT” is based in two time periods: the late 50’s and mid 80’s.  The novel is about a group of children who live in a town that has a problem with people going missing.  Pennywise, the dancing clown, stays hidden under the sewers of the town’s water system.  The plot also goes into the past and present time; everything else is a mystery.

“At first the trailer looked funny… it seems like a jump scare movie.  I would watch it, possibly,” Phong Truong said.

The director, Andrés Muschietti, is not very known since he usually works on short films.  Still, there is a particular actor that some people may know–Finn Wolfhard, who will play Richie, a troublesome kid.  Wolfhard is known as playing Mike Wheeler from Stranger Things.

Hip Hop fires at President Trump

By Tristian Villegas, Courier Staff Writer

Yes, that’s right. The president of the United States is having beef with popular old school artist,  Snoop Dogg. Lots of artist such as Mac Miller, YG, and Lil B are throwing shots at the president. Snoop recently came out with a video called “Lavender” featuring The Weeknd and Kaytranada. What seemed to have made the President infuriated has stirred controversy with its mock execution of a clown dressed as President Donald Trump. In the video Snoop Dogg is seen firing a fake pistol at Trump. It also takes on the hot topic issue of police shootings.

At least one member of Congress is not thrilled about the rapper’s creativity. Senator Marco Rubio made headlines during his run for the presidency when he revealed he was a lover of West Coast hip hop. The politician told TMZ Snoop Dogg shouldn’t have taken aim at Trump in the video. Snoop on the other hand told Billboard he has several issues with the new president. Everything from his election to the proposed travel ban.

By Mary-Kay Floyd, Courier News Editor

After the many failed attempts of getting Creative Writing to become a class, someone decided it should become a club.

Roxanne Ramos, a sophomore here at Logan, wanted to start a Creative Writing club after the class kept on getting dropped due to the lack of students.  Many people, including Ramos, wanted to take the class, only to get disappointed once they heard it’s been dropped.

Mr. Seaton, who was Ramos’ Honor English I teacher, proposed making a Creative Writing club.

Logan Cheer Team Prepares for Nationals

By Stephanie Ramirez, Courier Staff Writer

Before going to Nationals, the cheerleaders attended a showcase at Irvington High School on Friday, March 17. James Logan, American, Washington, and Irvington had the chance to complete the same routine as the one performed in Nationals.

Every year, the showcase is held to perform the routine for family and friends who can’t make it to the big competition. All the teams did 2 full outs, and as each team performed, we supported each other on the mat.

Nationals are held in the Anaheim Convention Center and the Logan Cheer Team will be competing on March 25th. As for the Fremont high schools and Union City, we all have the opportunity to take these routines out there. The showcase was another practice for us before we actually take the mat at Anaheim.

After all the improvements they made, the Logan Cheer Team pulled off their routine successfully. The team has grown and is competitive as any other sport at Logan; everytime they get a chance on the mat, they take advantage of it.

The Cheer Team gives it their all on the mat for their school. I do believe as a team we can pull off this routine at Nationals, as we have progressed through the season and it is time to take it to Anaheim and show them what we are capable of.

Getting the most out of symbolism

By Sarah Chawla, Courier Staff Writer

Jordan Peele, an American actor, comedian, film director, and screenwriter, recently broke records with a thriller titled “Get Out”.

In the movie, which is riddled with symbolism, the main character Chris is visiting his girlfriend Rose’s family. He seems to worry about how her parents will react to their interracial relationship, but easily dismisses this concern. In the beginning of the movie, on the drive up to the family’s country house, Rose hits a deer while driving. When they stop and call the cops, the cop asks for Chris’ drivers license even though Rose was driving. Rose seems to defend her boyfriend against the cop, saying there’s no reason they need Chris’ license. While in the moment it seems like Rose is simply not giving in to the racial bias that the cop had, it’s actually an insight into Rose’s real motivations. She wanted to avoid a paper trail showing she was with Chris before his disappearance that she planned. Additionally, Chris was empathetic enough to check on the deer that they hit while Rose showed no regard for the deer, hinting that she wasn’t as kindhearted as she seemed in the earlier scenes. Bioware Releases Mass Effect: Andromeda

By Matthew Wong, Courier Staff Writer

The fourth installment of the Mass Effect series, Mass Effect: Andromeda, was released on March 21, 2017.

This time we won’t be following Commander Shepard; instead, we will go to to the Andromeda Galaxy with the Ryder twins. The game was built on the Frostbite 3 software, and several aspects have improved from previous versions.

With the addition of jet packs, players will have significantly more mobility in combat. Multiplayer still follows the same format as the Mass Effect 3, except it will not be connected to the game. In addition, the Nomad is the new and improved version of the Mako.

The best thing Bioware has changed is the removal of the Paragon/Renegade system, replacing it with four different styles of speeches for a more natural feeling. Nevertheless, there are many other features in the game which I haven’t tested yet.
